TOURING THE ISLANDS HERITAGE AND CULTURE GARDENS ROOTS

WHISKY WILDLIFE WALKING HARRIS TWEED LIGHTHOUSES CRAFTS

We offer extremely comfortable bespoke chauffeured and guided tours through one of Europe's most beautiful and unspoilt areas. The West Coast of Scotland and the Western Isles (Inner and Outer Hebrides) are unsurpassed in Britain for the grandeur of the scenery with landscapes of mountain, moor, forest, islands, freshwater and sea lochs.

The Highlands and Islands have a wealth of history, pageantry, and myth from the Vikings to the early Scots Kings, the Lords of the Isles, and through a thousand years of Clan history. The result is a fascinating mix of Norse and Gaelic culture. With no pollution, the area is rich in wildlife, flora and fauna. The sea is clean and the water is clear (but cold). The very unpredictability of the weather produces the most remarkable and evocative changes of light and shadow.

Our tours can encompass visits to castles, gardens, whisky distilleries, craft centres, lighthouses, Harris Tweed weavers, a genealogical centre, exhibitions, as well as walks, picnics and local boat trips to sites of particular interest. Alternatively you can just sit back and admire the ever-changing scenery - each day clients are free to pick and choose exactly what they would like to do en route. Ample time is always provided for shopping for tartans, tweeds or cashmeres - if required, purchases can be shipped directly anywhere in the world.

IG can take up to 6 people in a spacious Mercedes-Benz Traveliner, a comfortable vehicle eminently suited to the requirements and terrain. There is a small on board library with a variety of interesting books - fact and fiction - on the myth, history, flora and fauna of the Highlands and Islands. Clients are usually met in Edinburgh or Glasgow, but for those who wish to spend more time in the Outer Hebrides, we can arrange to collect clients at Stornoway airport on the Island of Lewis, which has regular air services from Glasgow.

An example of a one week tour that has proved very popular is provided; however we are experienced in arranging tailor-made itineraries according to each client's taste - tours that can extend from 4 days to 2 weeks and that can involve anything from gentle daily touring to adventurous excursions to remote places such as St Kilda, a spectacular group of Atlantic islands 50 miles west of the Outer Hebrides.

The whole ethos of Island Going is flexibility, and your chauffeur guide is at your service all day and every day, providing a unique, carefree, and interesting way of exploring the area. Only the very best hotels in exceptionally attractive locations have been chosen for their character, accommodation and cuisine.
